11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

- This was the first time that a research on the correlation between Arsenic exposure during the period of pregnancy and the infants was conducted in Vietnam with such well design methodology and huge sample size. The research has assessed the correlation between the Arsenic exposure of the well water sources and the accumulation in human body (urine, hair, blood), between Arsenic transmission capability from women during pregnancy and their infants in Ha Nam provinces including 5 communes in which well water contaminated with Arsenic in the past and at the moment of conducting study in the research group and 4 communes in which well water uncontaminated with Arsenic in the reference group.

- This was the first time that a research was conducted in Vietnam assessing and providing data on analyzing Arsenic concentration in umbilical cord blood and in infant hair in the areas where water source contaminated to Arsenic.

- There was the first time that a research successfully conducted to assess the correlation between Arsenic exposure in female of reproductive age and maternal pathology; between Arsenic exposure during pregnancy and child mental behavior change in such huge scale of survey and such huge sample size.

12. Paratical applicability, if any:

- The research results provided important evidence supporting to researches on the mechanisms of Arsenic toxicity at molecular and gene levels and Arsenic metabolism.

- The arguments and results of this research provide science evidence to support State management organization making policy of mitigation of Arsenic contamination in water sources and orienting plans of water supply to communities particularly in rural areas in Vietnam.

- The data and document obtained in this research could be provided to the local governmental authorities at each level, health sectors, hospitals to understand the situation of Arsenic exposure in female of reproductive age, especially in women in pregnancy, and infants at local areas as well as maternal pathology to making plans of management water pollution and providing technical and health assistant to handling the consequence of Arsenic exposure to improve and care people health.

13. Further research directions, if any

- The research was conducted the correlation between Arsenic exposure during the period of pregnancy and the infants in Vietnam. Need to have a following research to evaluate development of the arsenic exposure infants at least in next five years or even longer period.
