11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

- Systematization of published documents on the oil spill in the marine environment; and onthe possibility of finding the emission sources. The study has established a database on the present status and possibility of oil spill appearance in the East Vietnam Sea.

- The study has determined the scientific basis of the oil spill problem and transformation of oil spill in two horizontal dimensions space, forward – backward in time in the marine environment with participation of the processes, such as the physical process, the weathering process and  the oil  properties changes by the Euler approach.

- The study identified the parameters set for the oil sill simulation including: reformative parameters set such as advection, diffusion, emulsification, evaporation, vertical dispersion, dissolution, sedimentation, shoreline and beach interaction and inherited parameters set, such as oxidation, biodegradation and oil properties (density, viscosity, volume, surface tension, API index).

- Develop a numerical model for oil propagation, diffusion and variation including emulsification, evaporation … processes by the Euler approach. This model was applied to the oil spills simulation in 2007 and 2008 in the East Vietnam Sea with the oil spill simulation forward in time and the ability of the location area of oil spill source finding simulation backward in time.

12. Paratical applicability, if any:

This research’s results can be applied into practical application as a support tool in the management and response to oil spills, to enhance better environmental protection and to find the slick source after oil spills have occurred in the sea.

13. Further research directions, if any:

- The study will be continued for oil types to be transported and exploited in the East Vietnam Sea.

- The study will be developed for three-dimensional oil spill simulation model.

- The study will be extensively developed for other material transportation.
