7. Thesis title: Study on Fish early life sciences as a scientific basis for the protection of fish larvae in the Gulf of Tonkin, Vietnam

8. Major: Zoology                                                          9. Code: 62420103

10. Supervisors: Assoc.Prof. Nguyen Xuan Huan and Assoc.Prof. Do Cong Thung

11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

-  Data on early life stage of fish are stastitical analyzed and summarized in a long period of time (13 years) which gave a fully spatial and partial covered the Gulf of Tonkin. For the first time, the list of species of juveniles and juveniles which are caught in the Tonkin Gulf, was systematically organized and edited, with 125 species belong to 138 genus and 92 families. In that, the fish eggs had defined 21 family, 24 genus and 35 species; larvae caught 91 family, 135 genus and 206 species.

- The dominant group of fish larvae stock is identified, which is important for identifying economic value  species. These results lay a foundation for the establish of fish larvae protection areas in term of spatial and partial in the Gulf of Tonkin.

- The spawning season were analyzed by month, fish larvae highly concentrated area was indentified by spring, summer, autumn, winter with research subjects representing ecological groups in the Gulf of Tonkin, Viet Nam. South, accompanied by typical environmental conditions and is divided into core and buffer zone. This makes the research results of the thesis have practical significance and high practical applicability.

12. Pratical applicability, if any:

- The results of the dissertation will significantly contribute to the planning and development of sustainable fisheries. Based on the current state, the spawning ground; the relevance of environmental factors to them, as a scientific basis to propose a reasonable and effective way to protect fish larvaeresources in researched waters.

- The research results of the dissertation will contribute the systematic and synchronous data fish larvae in the Tonkin Gulf waters, providing standard samples with high scientific value and education. the thesisnitially approach with the new research methods of fish larvae which is currently apply in the world.

- The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Directorate of Fisheries, Department of Conservation and Fisheries Resources Development, Sub-department of Aquatic resources Exploitation and Protection, located in coastal provinces of Tonkin Gulf, The management of fisheries resources in the locality will make use these research results of this dissertation and apply it to management practice. At the same time, the results of the study will also link the application of scientific information to the management and contribute to improving the efficiency of the management of the sector.

13. Further research directions, if any:

- Continue environmental monitoring in sensitive waters; Consider and prioritize the establishment of the resource protection area in the Gulf of Tonkin.

- Develop an annual fisheries resources survey program; Conduct survey to gather data of the concentrated distribution of fish larvae sources in order to provide information for planning, responsible use, protection and development of marine resources in the Tonkin Gulf.

- Continue research on determination the amount of recruit fish larvae in the Gulf of Tonkin in term of spatial and partial.
