QS WUR by subject 2024: Two more subjects of VNU featured in the world rankings
On April 10, 2024, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) released the rankings of 1,561 world higher education institutions with about 19,100 academic programs across 55 disciplines of five broad subject areas.

According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024 (QS WUR by subject 2024), VNU maintained the same positions of its key disciplines. Among VNU’s seven disciplines ranked by QS WUR 2024, Petroleum Engineering and Economics & Econometrics ranked for the first time, featured in Group 101 – 150 and in Group 451 – 500 globally respectively.

QS WUR ranking by broad subject area in 2024:

Engineering & Technology (Group 451-500):

- Computer Science & Information Systems: Group 501-550;

- Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering: Group 501-530;

- Electrical & Electronic Engineering: Group 451-500;

- Petroleum Engineering: Group 101-150.

Natural Sciences:

- Mathematics: Group 351-400.

Social Sciences & Management:

- Business & Management Studies: Group 551-600;

- Economics & Econometrics: Group 451-500.

VNU’s Engineering & Technology continued to be the broad subject area with the most ranked disciplines – 4 disciplines, of which 2 disciplines maintained their positions, 1 discipline went up and 1 ranked for the first time.

- VNU’s Computer Science & Information Systems maintained its position in Group 501-550 for three consecutive ranking periods with the ranking scores increasing from 51.9 points to 54 points in the 2024 ranking period.

- VNU’s Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering maintained its position in Group 501-530.

- VNU’s Electrical & Electronic Engineering went up into Group 451-500 with an increase in scores from 51.4 to 54.3 points.

- VNU’s Petroleum Engineering ranked for the first time, featured in Group 101-150 globally.

VNU’s Natural Sciences: Mathematics maintained its ranking position in Group 351-400 for 3 consecutive ranking periods.

- VNU’s Social Sciences & Management increased its ranked subjects with Economics & Econometrics ranked for the first time.

- VNU’s Business & Management Studies went down into Group 551-600 globally; however, there was an increase in ranking scores from 53.6 to 55.6 points in the 2024 ranking period.

- VNU’s Economics and Econometrics ranked for the first time, featured in Group 451-500 globally.

QS WUR by subject 2024 evaluates universities across 5 indicators, including:

+ Academic reputation

+ Employer reputation

+ Citations per paper

+ H-index

+ International Research Network

The QS ranking indicators emphasize an institution’s contribution to and impact of the training quality of a discipline/field on society (through the assessment of scholars and employers); contributions to scientific research (through citations per paper and H-index); and internationalization of scientific research (through International Research Network).
