Special seminar on Start-up and Venture Capital

On April 19, 2023, the special seminar on “Start-up and Venture Capital” held by VNU Vietnam Japan University (VJU) in cooperation with Mitsubishi Research Institute (MRI). The seminar attracted interests of VJU students.

The speaker of the seminar, Mr. Mikihide Katsumata is the President and COO of INCJ, Ltd which formerly known as Innovation Network Corporation of Japan founded in 2009 with US$20 billion equivalent of investment capital. He was also the founder and manager of many companies like Nippon Mirai Capital Co., Ltd., New Frontier Capital Management Co., Ltd.  He is one of the leaders in driving open innovation in Japan.

On behalf of VJU, Dr. Nguyen Hoang Oanh, Vice Rector welcomed the seminar, especially the presentation of Mr. Mikihide Katsumata. He believed that systematic introduction about start-up and capital venture of the well-known expert will help VJU students to catch up with start-up trend in Vietnam, and to boost their deeper learning about the field. 

How to start-up? Main approaches for start-up to find opportunities? Venture Capital and Venture Capitalist. These are exciting contents shared in the seminar by the speaker.

In the seminar, Mr. Mikihide Katsumata showed how to make bussiness plans by introducing most successful story of his former student, who established a company of “healthy stable food”. Moreover, he explained the investment structure of venture capital. His presentation was insightful and beneficial for those who are interested in entrepreneurship and innovation.

Besides, Q&As session is also interesting part of the seminar with VJU students’ impressive questions such as “how to sustain development of the start-up”- a student from Bachelor in Japanese Studies, “any suggestion on courses for the graduate student desire to start-up but have no clear idea” – a student from Master on Global Leadership, or “what is the trending of venture capital and the meaning of the trending for entrepreneur seeking funds”- a student from Bachelor in Japanese Studies.  The speaker responded to each of the questions with practical answers based on his own experiences and he gave lots of practical advice to the students.

The seminar is a great opportunity for VJU students to learn more about start-up and venture capital, and also encourages students to raise up innovative start-up ideas in future. VJU will continue to provide these opportunities to students.
